Tall Athletic Fit Guide

DRIEQUIP Tall Athletic Fit Guide

If you've ever bought a standard athletic shirt and found the sleeves stopping above your wrist, the hem riding up during a workout, or the shoulders pulling across your back — you already know why tall sizing exists. This guide explains exactly what makes DRIEQUIP Tall sizing different, what to measure, and how to find your best fit across our LT–4XLT range.

Why Tall Sizing Is Different from Standard

Standard athletic shirts are cut for men in roughly the 5'8"–6'0" height range. DRIEQUIP Tall shirts are re-proportioned for taller builds — not just scaled up. Here's what changes:

  • Sleeve length — Tall sleeves are lengthened so the hem lands at or near mid-bicep rather than riding up toward the shoulder. This is especially noticeable during overhead movements in the gym or on the field.
  • Torso length — The body of the shirt is cut longer so the hem stays tucked (or stays covering the waistband) whether you're standing, squatting, or reaching. A longer torso also helps prevent that "cropped" look common on tall guys wearing standard sizes.
  • Shoulder width — Shoulder seams in Tall sizes are positioned to align with a proportionally wider shoulder structure, reducing pulling at the seam and improving range of motion. This is distinct from Big sizing, which adds width but does not adjust for height.
  • Armhole depth — A deeper armhole accommodates longer arms and a longer torso without binding under the arms during athletic movement.
⚠️ Tall vs. Big: "Tall" adds length. "Big" adds width. "Big & Tall" adds both. If you're 6'2"+ with an athletic build, you likely need Tall — not Big — sizing. If you carry significant width through the chest and midsection and need the length, Big & Tall may be the right call.

How to Measure Yourself

For the most accurate fit, use a soft measuring tape and measure over a t-shirt (not a heavy layer). Have a friend help if possible.

  • Sleeve length: Measure from the center back of your neck, across the top of your shoulder, and down to your wrist bone with your arm slightly bent. Compare to the sleeve length on the size chart.
  • Torso / body length: Measure from the highest point of your shoulder (at the base of your neck) straight down to where you want the shirt to end — typically the mid-hip or just past the waistband.
  • Chest / shoulder width: Measure across the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under your arms. For shoulder width, measure across your upper back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam on a shirt that fits well.
  • Waist: Measure at the narrowest point of your natural waist, usually about one inch above the navel.

Once you have your measurements, compare them to our Sizing Chart, which includes detailed measurements for all men's, women's, and kids' sizes.

DRIEQUIP Tall Size Range: LT through 4XLT

Our Tall line runs from Large Tall (LT) through 4X-Large Tall (4XLT), giving taller athletes a full range of fits — including extended widths for broader builds. Here's how each size is generally positioned:

Size Best For General Height Range Chest (approx.)
LT (Large Tall) Lean to athletic build, taller frame 6'1" – 6'3" 41" – 44"
XLT (X-Large Tall) Athletic to broad-shoulder build 6'2" – 6'4" 45" – 48"
2XLT Broad chest, athletic or heavier build 6'2" – 6'5" 49" – 52"
3XLT Full chest, longer torso required 6'3" – 6'5"+ 53" – 56"
4XLT Largest chest with tall proportions 6'3" – 6'6"+ 57" – 60"
📏 These height and chest ranges are general guidelines based on typical proportions. Individual builds vary — always cross-reference your actual chest and torso measurements with our Sizing Chart rather than relying on height alone.

What to Expect from the Fit

DRIEQUIP Tall tees are cut with an athletic silhouette — they follow the body without being skin-tight, with enough room through the chest and shoulders for full range of motion. Here's what a well-fitting Tall shirt should look and feel like:

  • Shoulder seams sit at the edge of your shoulder, not drooping toward your upper arm or pulling toward your neck.
  • Chest lies flat without pulling across the front when your arms are at your sides.
  • Sleeves reach mid-bicep and don't creep up during overhead movements.
  • Hem reaches past the waistband when standing and stays put when you bend over or reach overhead.
  • Armholes allow full arm extension without binding or pulling the shirt up.

Still Not Sure? Check the Sizing Chart

Our full Sizing Chart includes detailed measurements for men's, women's, and kids' sizes. If you're between sizes or have an unusual proportion (long arms with a narrower chest, for example), the chart measurements will give you the most reliable guidance. When in doubt, size up in Tall — you can always tuck a slightly longer hem, but you can't add sleeve length.
